Day by Day

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Bagdogra → Scenic drive to Gangtok

Warm welcome at Bagdogra Airport (or NJP railway station) and a spectacular 4-hour drive along the Teesta river to Gangtok (5,410 ft). After check-in and a hot lunch, head out for an evening stroll on MG Marg — Gangtok's pedestrian-only heart lined with cafés, bakeries and Sikkimese boutiques. Optional welcome dinner at a curated Sikkimese-Tibetan restaurant featuring momos, thukpa and gundruk soup.

Day 2

Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir & alpine excursion

After an early breakfast, drive up to the sacred glacial Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft) — expect brief snow patches even in summer. Enjoy an optional yak ride, cable car and Sikkimese-costume photos, then continue to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. Return to Gangtok by evening. Nathula Pass permit can be added on request (subject to closure days and weather).

Day 3

Gangtok monasteries & cultural sights

A full day exploring Gangtok's most iconic Buddhist and cultural landmarks: Rumtek Monastery (seat of the 16th Karmapa), Do-Drul Chorten stupa surrounded by 108 prayer wheels, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology's rare thangka collection, and Ganesh Tok viewpoint. Afternoon at the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom for authentic Lepcha weaves and cardamom shopping.

Day 4

Gangtok → Darjeeling via tea gardens

Check out and drive to Darjeeling (approx. 4 hours) via the winding Teesta river valley, with a stop at Lover's Meet viewpoint. Arrive at your Kanchenjunga-view hotel and take an evening stroll on Mall Road, Chowrasta and Nehru Road for Nathmulls tea and Glenary's cakes.

Day 5

Tiger Hill sunrise & UNESCO toy-train ride

Pre-dawn 4 AM drive to Tiger Hill (8,482 ft) to witness the first golden rays hit Kanchenjunga — one of the most photographed sunrises in India. On the return, visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop (a war memorial and railway spiral). Afternoon heritage joyride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (UNESCO-listed steam toy train). Evening free for Happy Valley Tea Estate or Padmaja Naidu Zoo.

Day 6

Tea garden farewell & departure

Relaxed breakfast, a stop at a working Darjeeling tea estate with a factory walk-through and first-flush tea tasting, then transfer to Bagdogra airport / NJP railway station (approx. 3 hours). Depart with memories of monasteries, mountain sunrises and a canister of authentic first-flush.

Frequently Asked Questions

Indian nationals need only a photo ID for Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake and general travel. Nathula Pass requires an additional inner-line permit (Indian nationals only), which we arrange at least 48 hours in advance. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit — share passport copies at least 15 days before travel and we handle the paperwork.

Yes — the joyride ticket (Darjeeling–Ghoom–Batasia Loop, ~2 hours) is pre-booked and confirmed as part of the package. If Indian Railways cancels the run due to technical or weather issues, we arrange a full refund of the ticket portion or a diesel-locomotive substitute.

Gangtok stays a mild 5–20°C most of the year; Darjeeling 3–17°C. Tsomgo Lake and Nathula regularly drop below zero even in summer. Tiger Hill at 4 AM is icy — pack thermals, gloves, a windproof jacket and a warm cap.

Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft) is safe for most travellers with mild pacing — we build in acclimatisation and can arrange portable oxygen support on request. Nathula Pass (14,140 ft) is more demanding; we advise skipping it for anyone with cardiac, respiratory or blood-pressure concerns.

Kanchenjunga is highly weather-dependent — March–May and October–December offer the best clear-sky odds (roughly 75–85 % of Tiger Hill mornings). Monsoon and heavy cloud can obscure the peak. We build the itinerary to give you two sunrise chances (Tiger Hill + Gangtok viewpoints) to maximise the odds.

Absolutely — West Sikkim (Pelling, Yuksom, Ravangla) adds 2–3 nights and brings you to the sacred Khecheopalri Lake and Pemayangtse Monastery. North Sikkim (Lachung, Yumthang Valley) adds 3 nights and includes the famed Valley of Flowers. Just share your extra days with your curator.

Yes — the itinerary works beautifully for both. Honeymooners love the Kanchenjunga-view suites, tea-estate walks and heritage stays; families enjoy the toy train, yak rides and Himalayan Zoological Park. We tailor the daily pace for children under 10 and seniors.
